The Cistercian convent of the Holy Trinity at Buenavista in Breña Alta is surprisingly new. It was founded in 1946, and it’s the only closed order on the island. Sardine’s funeral 2019 in Los Sauces tonight

Tonight is the sardine’s funeral in Los Sauces, one of my favourite nights of the year. The funeral procession will begin at about 9:30 pm with the cremation at 11:00 or so. Los Sauces have the biggest sardine, and it dances. instead of being carried behind a lorry, perhaps forty people carry the bier, and they toss it around as though it were on a story sea.

The outside of the church of St Michael the Archangel, Tazacorte I’m not religious, but most of the churches on La Palma are beautiful, and worth at least a quick look. The traditional drinks for Los Indianos are Cuban: rum and coke (I don’t like coke) or mojitos. Proper mojitos, with rum, fresh sugar cane juice, mint and lemon. It was worth queuing.
